Share
For Valentine’s Day, here is a super cute and easy craft you can make with kids: a Pop‑Up Hug Card 💕
This card is perfect as a classroom Valentine or a small handmade gift.
Below, I explain each step in a clear, step‑by‑step order to help you recreate this card easily.
Materials You Will Need

- Colored cardstock (red or pink)
- White paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Black marker and colored pens
- Pencil
Step 1 – Prepare the Card Base and Inner Paper
Cut a rectangle from colored cardstock for the base of your card.
Then cut a slightly smaller white rectangle for the inside.
Make sure the white piece fits nicely inside the colored card when folded.
Step 2 – Mark the Measurements for the Arms
On the white paper, draw three vertical sections:
- Middle section: 5 cm (this will be the body)
- Left section: 4 cm (left arm)
- Right section: 4 cm (right arm)
These measurements help the arms open nicely when the card is opened.

Step 3 – Cut and Shape the Arms
Cut the left and right sections into long thin strips.
Leave the middle part square – this will be the body of your character.
You can trim the arms later if they look too long.

Step 4 – Fold the Top Corners
Fold the top two corners of the middle square slightly inward.
This creates soft shoulders and makes the character look cuter.
It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference ✨

Step 5 – Fold the Arms Inward
Fold both arms toward the back of the body piece.
When the card is closed, the arms stay inside.
When the card opens, the arms move outward to give a hug.
Press the folds well with your fingers.

Step 6 – Glue the Piece Inside the Card
Glue only the bottom part of the white piece onto the inside of the colored card.
Do not glue the top part.
This allows the figure to pop up when the card is opened.

Step 7 – Draw the Character
Using a black marker, draw:
- The face
- The body
- The arms extending onto the strips
- Keep it simple – this design is adorable because of its simplicity 🤍

Step 8 – Decorate the Front Cover
On the front of the card, draw a small heart and color it in.
You can also add dots, names, or a short message.

Step 9 – Write the Message Inside
This message works perfectly with the hugging arms:
“I love you thiiiiis much ❤️”
When the card opens, the message becomes even sweeter 🥰
Final Result
When you open the card, the arms stretch out and give a little hug 🤗
This is a perfect:
- Valentine’s Day classroom gift
- Craft activity for kids
- Handmade card for friends and family
Simple, fun, and full of love 💕
